What happens when an architecture and engineering firm designs a collaboration space for future engineers?

At Carnegie Mellon University, AE Works set out to revitalize a workspace for Mechanical Engineering PhD students that would inspire the next generation of problem solvers and visionaries. Within the School of Engineering’s Wean Hall, we designed an updated, modern collaboration and workspace with a meeting area, kitchenette, and workstations.

AE Works provided architecture, interior design, and engineering services that included evaluating building systems to support the renovations, ensuring code compliance, and collaborating with furniture suppliers to optimize space utilization.

The new space not only provides functional and aesthetically pleasing workstations but also fosters collaboration and innovation among students and faculty. By successfully integrating modern design elements with the needs of a higher education setting, the project elevates the academic experience, contributing to the university’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities for its students and staff.
